A perception and PDE based nonlinear transformation for processing spoken words
نویسندگان
چکیده
A perception and PDE (partial di erential equation) based nonlinear transformation is proposed to process spoken words in noisy environment. The transformation was designed to reduce noise through time adaptation and spectral enhancement by evolving a focusing quadratic fourth order nonlinear PDE (the Cahn-Hillard equation). Constant, low SNR signals were adaptively decreased to reduce noise. Once the noise levels were reduced, the evolution of focusing PDE was used to enhance the spectral peaks, and further reduce noise interference. Numerical results on noisy spoken words indicated that the transformed spectral pattern of the spoken words was insensitive to nosie. The spectral distances between noisy words and original words were signi cantly reduced after the transformation.

This study was inspired by VanPatten and Uludag’s (2011) study on the transferability of training via processing instruction to output tasks and Mori’s (2002) work on the development of talk-in-interaction during a group task. An interview was devised as the pretest, posttest, and delayed posttest to compare four intervention types for teaching the simple past passive: traditional intervention ...
متن کاملElimination of Hard-Nonlinearities Destructive Effects in Control Systems Using Approximate Techniques
Many of the physical phenomena, like friction, backlash, drag, and etc., which appear in mechanical systems are inherently nonlinear and have destructive effects on the control systems behavior. Generally, they are modeled by hard nonlinearities. In this paper, two different methods are proposed to cope with the effects of hard nonlinearities which exist in friction various models. Simple inver...
متن کاملImage Restoration Using A PDE-Based Approach
Image restoration is an essential preprocessing step for many image analysis applications. In any image restoration techniques, keeping structure of the image unchanged is very important. Such structure in an image often corresponds to the region discontinuities and edges. The techniques based on partial differential equations, such as the heat equations, are receiving considerable attention i...
متن کاملThe time course of variability effects in the perception of spoken language: changes across the lifespan.
Although spoken language is communicated via a rapidly varying signal, human listeners recognize spoken words both quickly and accurately. Nonetheless, variability in speech does have implications for both the processes and representations involved in spoken language perception. Moreover, variability effects have been observed across the lifespan, ranging from infants to older adults. Many fact...
